Who Is The First Assamese Woman Ips Officer?

The first Assamese woman to become an IPS (Indian Police Service) officer is Yamin Hazarika. She joined the prestigious Indian Police Service in the 1977 batch and was a trailblazer for women in law enforcement from Assam.

Yamin Hazarika served with distinction in various capacities and is remembered for her leadership, courage, and contributions to women's empowerment within the police services.

Sanjukta Parashar, another notable figure from Assam, joined the IPS in the 2006 batch. She gained national recognition for her courageous work in counter-insurgency operations, particularly in the northeastern states of India. While she is one of the most prominent Assamese women in the IPS, she is not the first.

Therefore, Yamin Hazarika holds the distinction of being the first Assamese woman IPS officer.

Quick Fact: Yamin Hazarika also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Delhi, a rare position for women officers during her time.
