The first king of the Chutia dynasty in Assam was Birpal. He founded the Chutia kingdom around the late 12th century, establishing his rule in the upper Brahmaputra valley. Birpal is credited with uniting various indigenous groups and laying the foundation for a strong kingdom that later became a major power in medieval Assam before the rise of the Ahoms.
