When Did The Ahoms Come To Assam?
The Ahoms came to Assam in 1228 AD under the leadership of Sukaphaa, a Tai prince from present-day Yunnan (China). Crossing the Patkai hills, Sukaphaa and his followers settled in the Brahmaputra Valley, eventually founding the powerful Ahom Kingdom that ruled Assam for nearly 600 years. Their arrival marks the beginning of Assam medieval history. | ||
