Detailed Notes
The historical origin of Tilinga Mandir dates back to the year 1965. During this period, tea garden workers in the Bordubi region near present-day Tinsukia noticed the natural emergence of a Shiva Linga from the ground beneath a large peepal or banyan tree. This unexpected discovery was considered a divine sign by the local community and plantation administrators. As a result, a modest shrine was constructed at the site to worship Lord Shiva.
In the early years, the temple structure was simple, but the belief surrounding the Shiva Linga gradually gained popularity. Devotees began visiting the place to offer prayers, hoping for the fulfillment of personal wishes. A unique practice emerged where visitors promised to return and offer a bell if their prayers were answered. Over time, this vow-based tradition became central to the identity of Tilinga Mandir.
