A total of 4,29,249 students appeared for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2026, out of which 2,81,701 candidates successfully passed. The overall pass percentage stands at 65.62%, reflecting a steady improvement in academic performance over the years.
When compared to historical data, the pass percentage has shown significant growth. In 1994, the success rate was just 30.9%, whereas in 2026 it has more than doubled. This consistent upward trend indicates improvements in educational infrastructure, better teaching practices, and increased participation of students across Assam.
In terms of merit performance, Jyotirmay Das from Bajali secured the top position in the state. The second rank was achieved by Akankha Bhuyan from Biswanath. Jia Farah Islam from Dibrugarh secured the third position, followed by Surjit Akhtar from Nalbari. These students have demonstrated outstanding academic excellence and contributed to their respective districts' recognition.
Interestingly, no student from Kamrup Metro managed to secure a place among the top four rank holders this year, which stands out as a notable observation in the merit analysis.
The district-wise performance reveals a wide variation across Assam. Dima Hasao emerged as the best-performing district with an impressive pass percentage of 88.23%, setting a benchmark for others. Sivasagar followed with a strong performance of 84.08%. On the other hand, Cachar recorded the lowest pass percentage at 49.13%, indicating the need for focused academic improvement and support.
