Detailed Notes
Dehing Patkai, often known as the Amazon of the East, is the largest stretch of tropical lowland rainforest in India, located across the districts of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. Its dense forest cover and rich biodiversity make it a vital ecological zone that absorbs carbon dioxide and helps regulate the climate of Upper Assam.
Jeypore Rainforest, situated in Dibrugarh district, is part of the larger Dehing Patkai landscape. It is known for its rich flora and fauna, including several rare and exotic species. This rainforest contributes significantly to maintaining the region's environmental health and supports a wide variety of wildlife.
Dima Hasao district, on the other hand, is widely referred to as the Green Lungs of Assam due to its lush green hills and extensive forest cover. Located in the Borail range of the sub-Himalayas, it features some of the highest peaks in the state, reaching up to 1932 meters. The region plays a vital role in oxygen production and climate regulation.
Together, these regions form the backbone of Assam's natural ecosystem and are essential for sustaining environmental balance.
