Born on 3 October 1979 in Assam, Sanjukta Parashar grew up in a family that valued education, discipline, and public service. Her father, Dulal Chandra Barua, worked as an engineer in the Assam Irrigation Department, while her mother, Meena Devi, served in the Assam Health Department. During her childhood, her family lived in different parts of Assam before settling in Guwahati. From an early age, she actively participated in sports, parade activities, and academics, developing qualities of leadership and determination.
She completed her schooling at Holy Child School, Guwahati, and later studied at Army School, Narangi. After finishing school, she moved to New Delhi to pursue higher education. She earned a Bachelor's degree with Honours in Political Science from Indraprastha College for Women, University of Delhi. She later completed a Master's degree in International Relations, followed by an M.Phil and a Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Her doctoral research focused on international affairs and foreign policy, providing her with a strong academic foundation before entering the civil services.
Before joining the Indian Police Service, Sanjukta Parashar worked as a researcher at the Observer Research Foundation (ORF). During this period, she prepared for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination. Her hard work and dedication resulted in an outstanding All India Rank of 85 in the 2006 UPSC examination. Although she qualified for prestigious administrative services, she deliberately chose the Indian Police Service because she wanted to work directly with people and contribute to internal security and public safety.

She has held responsibilities in various districts of Assam and has also served on central deputation with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), where she contributed to investigations involving national security and terrorism.
